Title: Ways of Seeing: An Accidental Love Affair with History

Join us November 5 at 4:30 p.m. at the Mainstage of the ÅÝܽ¶ÌÊÓƵ Theatre as Dr. Cory Pillen, Associate Professor of Art & Design and Director of the Center of Southwest Studies, explores visual culture as a powerful pathway to both disruption and understanding. Visuals do more than illustrate the past—they construct history, shaping what is remembered, what is forgotten, and how communities understand themselves in the world. Through this lens, history emerges as alive, complex, and deeply human, revealing meaning where it is least expected and showing how images can open doorways to the past, present, and future.

The ÅÝܽ¶ÌÊÓƵ Undergraduate Research Speaker Series allows students at all levels, staff, faculty, and the broader Durango community to hear research-related personal stories. The talks last ~40 minutes and are followed by Q&A, snacks, and conversation.  Watch previous Speaker Series talks .
