Exciting News! New upgraded Ticketing System coming July 14th!

Fresh ServiceWe are currently in the process of transitioning to a new ticketing system, FreshService. This change is part of our ongoing efforts to improve the way we manage and respond to support requests, ensuring a more efficient and user-friendly experience for everyone. 

The Ask IT support workspace will go live first. Other department support, such as Ask Accounting, will follow suit to transition off our Footprints ticketing system. Additional workspaces will be announced.

  • Submit and track your requests easily through the one-stop support portal.
  • Self-service navigation allows you to search solution articles for quick fixes.
  • Customize your ticket with more information up front to route you right to the expert
  • AskIT@fortlewis.edu will still be available to send in a ticket. However, tickets submitted from the portal will get precedence over emailed requests! 

More information will be forthcoming on accessing the portal link and how to submit a ticket.

During this transition period, there may be some adjustments as we migrate to the new platform, and we appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to enhance our support services.

Fort Lewis College Faculty, students, and staff now have the capability to remotely access specialized applications that were previously restricted to physical computer labs. This enhancement allows you to utilize these applications from residence halls, home, or even while traveling, on any device, including Windows, Mac, and mobile platforms.

 Zoom

Zoom is a tele-conferencing app that all students, faculty, and staff have access to. With Zoom you can easily host or join a meeting from your computer or telephone, and access features like screen share, video conferencing, and more. .

To ensure a positive and safe meeting experience, review and follow the Zoom Best Practices before you host your first meeting.

We have a limited amount of Zoom recording space in our current cloud subscription.  In order to stay within our quota, we will be purging recordings on a periodic basis.  Learn more about the purge and how to download your Zoom recordings.


Webinars

The Fort Lewis IT Department holds a license which allows us to conduct Zoom Video Webinars. This allows Zoom meetings to be broadcast to up to 1000 view-only attendees. As the host or a panelist, you can share your screen, video and audio in a webinar and attendees can use the chat or question and answer options to interact with the host and panelists.  Polling questions can be asked of the audience.

Think of webinars like a virtual lecture hall or auditorium. Webinars are ideal for large audiences or events that are open to the public. Typically, webinar attendees do not interact with one another. Though Zoom provides options for you to get more social with your attendees, your average webinar has one or a few people speaking to an audience.

Webinars can require preregistration, with the option for the host to add custom registration questions, or registration can be turned off for attendees to join by simply clicking a link at the time of the webinar. Webinars can be held once, can reoccur in a series, or can be the same session held multiple times.

Difference Between a Zoom Meeting and a Webinar

The Meeting and Webinar platforms offer similar features and functionality but have some key differences.

Meetings are designed to be a collaborative event with all participants being able to screen share, turn on their video and audio, and see who else is in attendance.

Webinars are designed so that the host and any designated panelists can share their video, audio and screen. Webinars allow view-only attendees. They have the ability to interact via Q&A, chat, and answering polling questions. The host can also unmute the attendees.
