Different land agencies have different missions. The U.S. Forest Service (USFS) and Bureau of Land Management (BLM), for example, balance competing uses like energy development and cultural resource protection.
Some areas may also have wilderness or special designations that affect access. While individuals enjoy broad access, group trips require extra consideration to protect the land and its users.
To submit a strong permit request, you’ll need to research the land you plan to visit and understand agency priorities. Start early—submit your request at least 6 months in advance.
