Mr. Malcolm Payne Jr. is a highly sought out performer, teacher, and director championing a myriad of genres including opera, musical theatre, gospel, blues, jazz and pop. He currently serves as the resident music director for Four Corners Musical Theatre Company. In collaboration with arts organizations such as Fort Worth Opera, The Delta Cultural Center of Arkansas, and the Dallas Arboretum, Payne has curated culturally enlightening recitals to bring classical music to a modern audience. He was a teaching-performing artist for the Dallas Opera Educational Outreach Program for over 10 years and a Hattie Mae Lesley Resident Artist at Fort Worth Opera. Payne made his Carnegie Hall debut as a featured soloist with the Turtle Creek Chorale in the world premiere of Marquees L. Garrett's Dreamland: Tulsa 1921. Recent performances include Marquis D'Obigny in La Traviata (Dallas Opera), Curtis in Sister Act (Jubilee Theatre), Friar Jean in Roméo et Juliette (Dallas Opera), the baritone soloist in Carl Orff's Carmina Burana (Flower Mound Symphony Orchestra), and a featured soloist for Coppell Chorale's Tipping the Hat: A Stephen Sondheim Celebration which he also produced. Other accolades include being a finalist in the Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition Arkansas District, semifinalist in the Opera Ebony Benjamin Matthews Vocal Competition, and featured vocalist and piccolo player in the National Association of Negro Musicians 2023 Annual Convention.
