Quarantine

How to manage your email quarantine in Office 365.

Beginning Monday 5/17/2021 around 7:30 pm you will start to receive a new daily email from quarantine@messaging.microsoft.com with a subject of Spam Notification: nn New Messages. This is the digest of the phishing and spam messages captured from the previous day in our new license with Microsoft. From this message you will be able review, release or block the sender. If you are looking for an email and think it might be in quarantine you don’t have to wait for the digest email. Instead, login to the security portal at www.fortlewis.edu/quarantine at any time.

The daily email you are used to receiving with a subject of 'Admin Junk Summary' will continue through June 2. You will be receiving both messages as we transition to the new services. After June 2nd you will only receive the quarantine@messaging.microsoft.com. The Junk Email folder in Outlook, which also captures phishing and spam emails, will continue to operate unchanged.

How to check your Quarantined messages

  • Use the link /quarantine or access your quarantine from your daily email
  • You will be prompted to log in through CAS
  • Once the page has loaded you will have visibility to all quarantined messages
  • Use the 'Sort Results By' section to search for more specific messages. Using the dropdown on Message ID provides filter options for your search like subject or sender email

Additional information about quarantine

  • You can only release a message once
  • If you don't release or remove the message, it will be deleted after the default quarantine retention period expires
  • Messages that were quarantined for high confidence phishing, malware, or by mail flow rules are only available to administrators, and are not visible to users. If you believe you have a legitimate anticipated email that is unreceived in your inbox or Quarantine, please reach out to AskIT to determine if the email was incorrectly flagged and can be released
  • To mark a sender that was quarantined as safe for future emails, first Release your message in Quarantine. Wait for the email message to appear in your inbox. Open the email and under Report Message select the Not Junk option.
