The Information Technology department is deploying an upgraded cloud-based VPN to replace our current on-premise connection. Some quick and easy setup is required to update your OpenVPN client to the latest version. With the updated VPN client, you can continue to access Fort Lewis College resources that you currently use with the old VPN. This includes file shares, Banner pages, CAS pages, web apps, remote desktop and any other services.
Our primary purpose of providing this upgraded VPN to you is to protect you with more security when you are accessing your ÅÝܽ¶ÌÊÓÆµ resources off campus, by utilizing Microsoft Multi Factor Authentication. Multi Factor Authentication (MFA) will be enabled for all faculty and staff on 10/17/22. OpenVPN will require your MFA verification upon your first login of each day. If you have already opted in to MFA, you will be prompted to verify with the same method options you use for your ÅÝܽ¶ÌÊÓÆµ Microsoft account. If you have not yet opted in to Multi Factor, you will simply log in to the VPN through CAS.
Follow the instructions below to install/update your OpenVPN client.
Download and install the latest version of the .
Add a new profile by clicking the big (+) button within the client.
In the Import Profile dialog enter "https://fortlewis.openvpn.com" in the URL section and click the Next button.
Enter your Fort Lewis College email address in the Authenticate dialog and click the Next button.
Enter your username and password and click the Login button.
If you have MFA enabled on you Microsoft account you will need to complete the verfication.
Select the Region and choose "Los Angeles, CA". This is based on the best performance for the Durango area. If you work remotely outside the Durango area, or in another state, you may need to try several of the regions available to determine the fastest connection for your location.
Edit the Profile name if desired and you are done with the setup.
