Local financial internship integrates students with careers

Durango contains an economic ecosystem as rich as its natural setting. Here, Fort Lewis College students can experience working with nationally competitive companies while staying close to home. One such company is Vantiv Integrated Payments, which offers paid internships during the summer months to students from the School of Business Administration.

On a snowy December morning, more than 200 students graduated from Fort Lewis College and participated in a Commencement ceremony in Whalen Gymnasium. The graduates were encouraged by Commencement Speaker Leslie Goldstein, winner of the Alice Admire Outstanding Teaching Award. Congratulations to all graduates and their families!

Durango's Community Cycling Celebration, on December 1, 2016, was created as a way to honor the role of the sport in our small mountain town, as well as raise funds for the ÅÝܽ¶ÌÊÓÆµ Cycling Team and Durango DEVO. Thanks to all who came out for the event!

Telluride Startup Weekend

Senior Engineering majors Eric Hicks and James Schneider, along with Visiting Professor of Physics & Engineering Randy Palmer, won first place in Telluride's Startup Weekend competition with their RoofDogs idea. Two other teams from ÅÝܽ¶ÌÊÓÆµ competed, with representation from Business Administration and Anthropology.

Moreen (Baylis) Sawyer

Moreen (Baylis) Sawyer was inducted into the Fort Lewis College Hall of Fame this past October. Sawyer (Exercise Science, ’05) is a three-time Skyhawks volleyball MVP, from 2001 to 2003. She was named to the 2003 All-Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference second team and earned RMAC honorable mention in 2001 and 2002. Matt Gutierrez

In October, Matt Gutierrez was welcomed to Fort Lewis College Hall of Fame. Gutierrez (Exercise Science, ’07) was a four-year quarterback for Skyhawks football, from 2003 – 2006. He led the Skyhawks to their first-ever postseason win and earning the game’s MVP award in the 2006 Dixie Rotary Bowl. He also earned All-RMAC first team honors in 2005 and 2006 and was the RMAC...
