About Dr. Kaori Takano

Dr. Kaori Takano grew up in Fukuoka Japan. After she earned her bachelor’s degree, she worked for Coca-Cola in Japan for nine years. She came to the USA in 1998 and earned her M.B.A. in 2000.  After working abroad for years, she returned to the USA, she obtained her Ph.D. in 2011 and moved to Durango, Colorado, to teach at Fort Lewis College.

Dr. Takano teaches international business, cross-cultural management, business ethics, and business Japanese language. She published her research topics in Corporate Communication: An International Journal, Social Business: An Interdisciplinary Journal, SAGE Research Methods Cases, and Social Responsibility Journal.

Dr. Takano currently represents Fort Lewis College for the American Association of University Women (AAUW) in order to advance equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, and research. She also represents Fort Lewis College for the Daniels Fund Ethics Initiative (DFEI) to promote ethics education on campus. Additionally, the Colorado Congress for Language Teachers (CCFLT) named Dr. Kaori Takano the winner of the 2025 Friend of World Languages Award. This distinction recognizes an individual who has made significant contribution to the promotion of the teaching and learning of world languages and cultures. 

Dr. Takano is a track chair of an international academic conference in Chicago, and every year she takes 2-3 students who present their research at the conference. Their conference activities are fully funded by the College, and some have received the best presentation award.

Dr. Takano loves traveling abroad, and she has visited more than 30 countries. Her son, who speaks Japanese and English, was recognized as one of the best junior cycling managers in the nation.
