Set Up MFA

Setup up multifactor authentication (two-factor authentication, 2FA, multifactor)

Multifactor Authentication has been enabled automatically for certain Fort Lewis College groups on specific dates to maintain sufficient security to Fort Lewis accounts and data. Review the rollout dates below to determine if you have been enrolled in MFA:

  • 04/15/2022 - new employees and rehires
  • 10/15/2022 - all faculty, staff and other employees
  • 01/01/2023 - Workday portal access for staff, faculty, and student workers
  • 03/27/2023 - new students who confirm attendance at Fort Lewis College on and after March 27th
  • 05/15/2023 - all active students

MFA will only prompt you beyond your network username and password once every 90 days when accessing your ܽƵ resources on campus. MFA will be prompted when off campus and using a non-verified device and/or wi-fi connection to log in to Microsoft ܽƵ apps, OpenVPN and Workday.

If you do not have MFA enabled yet, fill out the Opt In Form and wait for the confirmation email from askit@fortlewis.edu

  1. Sign out of any open Microsoft applications and close any browser windows
  2. Follow instructions on the MFA Help and Settings page to complete setup and add a backup method. It is strongly recommended to set up at least 2 for authentication in the event you cannot use your primary method

When MFA is auto-enabled, your next login to any Microsoft application (Webmail, Teams, Word, Excel, Sharepoint, etc.) will prompt the message “More information required” before you can proceed.

  1. Click Next to add your verification method. Start with the Phone option for the quickest MFA setup and receive a code via call or text. You can add more methods and change your default after initial setup is complete
  2. Follow instructions on the MFA Help and Settings page to complete setup and add a backup method. It is strongly recommended to set up at least 2 for authentication in the event you cannot use your primary method
  3. Take the short to learn everything you need to know about method options, managing settings, and the ܽƵ policy for how often and when you will need to authenticate

Note: You may choose ‘Skip for now’ if needed, which delays the setup for 14 days; after 14 days, you will receive this message again upon login, and will be required to finish setup before you can access any Microsoft applications.

MFA Support and Resources
If you need any assistance, contact the Help Desk during normal business hours:

Emergency Off-Hours Help
